Abstract

The article proposes methods for numerically solving a nonstationary vibration problem of an earth dam using the finite element method in a plane formulation under dynamic impact. It describes a method and software package for reducing the solution to a variational problem to solving a system of differential (dynamic) and algebraic (static) equations. The article provides an example of calculating the tall dam of the Charvak hydroelectric power station, which has a seismicity of 8-9 points. The numerical results include eigenfrequencies and modes, stress isolines, and the dependence of the amplitudes of external impact on time for different sections. Additionally, the article draws several physical conclusions identifying the most vulnerable sections of the dam.
