Abstract

Abstract Doris Lessing was a famous British writer who lived from 1919 to 2013. She portrays numerous social and economic disparities in many of her works, such as through the character of Mary in “The Grass is Singing,” who represents the civil and social conflicts of life through the protagonist. In her short story “To Room Nineteen” where the story of Susan, an intellectual with a simple role in her home life, is depicted with a tragic outcome. The aim of the research is to discover the importance of Doris Lessing’s famous works(stated above)“ through analyzing various complex themes present in these works. This research accomplishes the following tasks: understanding the importance of Doris Lessing’s stories, unveiling the unique features of the author’s creativity in the context of historical circumstances, literary environment, and literary trends, amidst socio political perspectives and analyzing the realism portrayed in the author’s works through the reflection of realistic events. Topics focused on women’s problems, family, motherhood, and loneliness are expressed. Through the thoughts, spiritual experiences, and behaviors of symbolic-literary characters (as exemplified by the work's characters Mary and Susan), these themes advanced the idea of personal freedom.
