Abstract

Introduction: The increase in the prevalence of hypertension is accompanied by an increasein the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and other diseases, especially in the elderly,causing an increase in mortality rates and huge health costs. Therefore, it is very important toapply the principles of regular health checks, maintaining a healthy diet, balanced nutrition,physical activity and adherence to treatment. This study aims to determine the description ofmedication adherence among hypertensive elderly in the elderly posyandu in Ngliman Village,Sawahan District, Nganjuk Regency. Method: The research used a quantitative descriptivedesign which was carried out on 23-26 November 2021, the population was all hypertensiveelderly who actively attended the elderly posyandu in Ngliman village with a total samplingtechnique of 24 respondents. The variable in this study was medication adherence which wasmeasured using the MMAS-8 (Morisky Medication Adherence 8) scale instrument. Dataanalysis uses descriptive statistics to describe research data. Result: The results of the studyshowed that almost half of the 24 respondents had high compliance, namely 11 people (45.8%),while the average compliance value of all respondents was 6.7 or in the moderate compliancecategory, and the value that often appeared was 8 or in the high compliance category.Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, adherence to taking medication in hypertensiveelderly is influenced by gender, several other factors, including the length of time they havesuffered from hypertension and social support, adherence to medication can be increased bythe patient's understanding of the disease and management of therapy both pharmacologicallyand non-pharmacologically.
