Abstract

India's hydrological framework is among the most diverse globally, encompassing regions like the Himalayan mountains, Indo-Ganga-Brahmaputra floodplains, western aeolian-alluvial deposits, and coastal areas. Groundwater, a critical resource supporting over 60% of irrigation and 85% of drinking water, faces unprecedented stress due to overexploitation, aquifer depletion, and quality deterioration.
