Abstract

Calculation formulas for finding characteristic angles that determine characteristic points of roll contact curves are obtained. It is established that external forces acting on the roll, the angular velocity of the roll, the feed rate of the material being processed, the friction coefficient, and the geometric parameters of the material and roll affect the values of the angles separating the no-slip zones from the slip zones. It is revealed that in the driven roll, the neutral angle is directed toward the entry of the material layer into the roll contact zone, and in the free roll, it is directed to the exit. The maximum point of the normal stress diagrams does not coincide with the neutral point and is always in the compression zone.
