Abstract

This study investigates the concentration of zinc leached into water stored in a brass pot at room temperature using the X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis method. A total of 100 mL of pure water was stored in a brass pot for 16 days. Water samples of 1 mL were taken at 24- or 48-hour intervals, resulting in 12 prepared solutions. XRF analysis showed that the zinc concentration in the control (unexposed) water was 0.5 mg/L, while the water stored in the brass pot exhibited zinc concentrations ranging from 2 to 13 mg/L over the 2–16-day period. Standard zinc solutions of 5 mg/L and 10 mg/L were also analyzed, and concentrations were determined within a 10% uncertainty margin. These findings demonstrate the leaching behavior of zinc from brass containers under ambient conditions.
