Abstract

This study presents the synthesis and study of a complex of quercetin with Fe(III) ions. UV and IR spectroscopy methods confirmed the formation of a coordination compound in which quercetin interacts with iron ions through hydroxyl and carbonyl groups. Calculations of the instability constant showed high stability of the complex (K<sub>inst.</sub> = 2.2456&times;10<sup>−4</sup>). It was found that the maximum degree of complexation is achieved with an excess of ligand. The results demonstrate the prospects for using the complex in medicine, catalysis and the creation of sensor materials.
