Wind Capture Walls Provide Local Energy in High-Density Urban Corridors

Abstract

Crowded cities and densely developed corridors struggle to meet their energy needs because there is little space for common energy infrastructure. Environmental risks and high power bills exist because we depend on traditional energy sources. Urban areas often fail to use wind energy because the wind blowing there is constantly interrupted by buildings and the city’s unique layout. To solve this problem, this paper proposes wind capture walls integrated into high-density areas. These walls apply the the principles of airflow and include turbines to capture wind energy from any direction, working best in cities’ changing winds. Using CFD simulation and genetic algorithms to guide their design, the wind capture walls boost their energy output and can be shaped to work well in urban settings. Using energy storage adds another advantage, so power can be used where needed and supply off-grid households. Simulations have found that using wind capture walls in cities is both technically possible and financially helpful, providing a clean alternative to regular energy sources. Thanks to this approach, renewable energy grows, fossil fuels are used less, and innovative city projects become easier in heavily populated regions.
