High-Isolation High-Efficiency Dual-Polarized Cavity-Back Slot Antenna Array
Abstract
This paper introduces a dual-polarized cavity-back slot antenna array with high isolation and high efficiency based on a single resonant cavity. Two orthogonal cavity modes, i.e., TE<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">101</inf> and TE<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">011</inf>, are generated for the design of the dual-polarized antenna. Due to the orthogonal filed distribution of the two modes, the proposed structure can achieve relatively high isolation. As the two modes have purely-directional electric field distribution, all the radiation slots can be directly excited by the electric field without requiring the power dividers, bringing out a simple antenna structure compared to traditional all-metal waveguide antennas. Finally, an 8×8 dual-polarized antenna array is presented and designed. Final simulations demonstrate that the proposed 8×8 dual-polarized antenna array exhibits a peak gain of 20 dBi and a high efficiency up to 99.8%.
