Abstract
This chapter explores the influence of technology on second language acquisition (SLA). It contrasts traditional language learning methods with the affordances of digital tools, highlighting the potential of social media platforms and educational games for enhancing language skills. The chapter draws on sociocultural theory to emphasize the role of social interaction and meaningful communication in language development. It then examines the specific functionalities of popular platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, demonstrating how these can provide learners with exposure to authentic language, opportunities for interaction, and engaging content.
