Abstract

This chapter explores the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI, in English language education. It highlights how AI enables the development of personalized, adaptive, and scalable learning materials, including reading passages, grammar exercises, vocabulary lists, and multimedia resources. By aligning content with learner goals and interests, AI fosters engagement, while interactive tools such as simulations, gamified activities, and conversational chatbots enhance motivation and retention. The chapter also examines key challenges, including accuracy, cultural bias, data privacy, and balancing personalization with standardized curricula. It concludes by emphasizing the need for responsible, ethical, and inclusive adoption, while anticipating future advancements such as multimodal AI, real-time adaptive feedback, and collaborative human-AI teaching models.
