Abstract
The use of English has been increasing worldwide, including in Uzbekistan, affecting most aspects of life. This entry aims to describe the role of English in education, business, medicine, media, and tourism in Uzbekistan. Then it analyzes the functions of English using Kachru's framework of functional allocation to study the value of English within Uzbek society. The findings reveal that English's interpersonal, innovative, and instrumental functions are widely observed among Uzbeks in and within the Uzbek context, whereas regulative function is limited to some governmental offices.
