Abstract
This article highlights the stages of development of world pedagogical science from ancient times to the first half of the 19th century. It analyzes the pedagogical views of the Ancient East and West, the educational systems of the Middle Ages, the ideas of the Renaissance, and the formation process of New Era pedagogy. Furthermore, the pedagogical theory of the great Czech educator J. A. Comenius, his principles of education, didactic views, and his contribution to the development of world pedagogy are described in detail.
