Abstract

This article examines the scholarly reception of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur and the Baburnama in France from the nineteenth century to the early twenty-first century. It focuses on how translation strategies and paratextual elements in the works of A. Pavet de Courteille, J.-L. BacquéGrammont, Gilles Veinstein, and Jean-Paul Roux have shaped the image of Babur. The study shows that in French academic discourse Babur is represented not only as a historical ruler but also as a writer-ruler and a cultural agent
