Abstract

For the first time, the influence of growth Na/Cl non-stoichiometry at the surface of a NaCl single crystal on its phase composition, gamma-irradiation-induced point-defect aggregation in both sublattices, and nanoparticle growth was studied using a combination of experimental methods and modern analytical instruments. It was found that under irradiation with doses <1 MR, the initial impurity nanophases NaClO3 and Na2O on the surface are ruptured, and instead Na2Cl, NaCl, NaOH, and metallic Na and NaH are formed.
