Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the semantic and formal characteristics of Korean idiomatic expressions, with a particular focus on those related to maeum (“mind/heart”), as used by Korean language learners from an Uzbek-speaking background, and to compare them with corresponding expressions related to ko‘ngil in Uzbek. This study classifies Korean and Uzbek idiomatic expressions related to maeum/ko‘ngil into four types according to the relationship between form and meaning: (1) expressions with the same form and meaning, (2) expressions with different forms but the same meaning, (3) expressions with the same form but different meanings, and (4) expressions that exist only in Korean.
