Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics of secondary neurological deficits in adolescent patients with spina bifida who underwent surgical treatment, and to assess their relationship to the type of spinal dysraphism and the affected spinal segment. During the study, the patients' medical histories, hydrocephalus (presence of shunt surgery), degree of neurological deficits (according to the International Classification of Spinal Cord Injury), spastic paresis (modified Ashworth scale), contractures, ambulatory monitoring status (Hoffer criteria), epilepsy, pain syndrome, urinary incontinence, and cognitive function (Raven's standard progressive matrices) were studied.
