THE SHARP INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR LEARNING ENGLISH AND OBTAINING INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATES AMONG 8TH–9TH GRADE STUDENTS TODAY: A SOCIO-PEDAGOGICAL ANALYSIS AND PROSPECTS
Abstract
This article analyzes the sharp increase in demand for learning English and obtaining international certificates such as Cambridge English, IELTS, and TOEFL among 8th–9th grade students in the Republic of Uzbekistan as one of the most relevant trends in the modern education system. Globalization, economic integration, digital transformation, and national education reforms — particularly the Presidential Decree of 2012 and the implementation of CEFR standards — serve as the main driving forces behind this process. The article highlights both the positive aspects of this growing demand (cognitive development of students, global competitiveness, and cultural openness) and its negative consequences (academic pressure, psychological burden, and urban-rural disparities). The study provides an in-depth analysis of the issue based on pedagogical, psychological, and economic approaches and puts forward recommendations for improving education policy, strengthening individual approaches, and introducing inclusive mechanisms. The findings indicate that English language proficiency and international certificates have now become not merely a school subject but a strategic tool for the life strategies of the younger generation and the development of the country’s human capital. The article is intended for publication in high-ranking international Scopus-indexed journals and is based on empirical observations and a critical analysis of scientific literature.
