Abstract

In patients with hypertension, target organ damage, including left ventricular hypertrophy and increased arterial stiffness, worsens the prognosis. A study involving 52 patients evaluated the effect of 6 months of therapy with the fixed-dose combination of telmisartan/amlodipine. A significant reduction in left ventricular myocardial mass index (by 7.6%), central arterial pressure, and pulse wave velocity was found. These data indicate a pronounced cardioprotective and vasoprotective effect of the therapy, which may contribute to an improved long-term prognosis in patients with hypertension.
