Abstract
This article examines the theoretical and practical foundations of assessing English writing skills. It explores the historical development of writing assessment, classical test theory, and key concepts such as reliability and validity. In addition, the study highlights modern pedagogical approaches that emphasize the communicative and social nature of writing. The findings identify essential principles for developing effective and ethical writing assessment systems.
