Abstract

In the presence of trimethylamine, new compounds were obtained by arylsulfonylation of 3-(piperidin-2-yl)pyridine (the alkaloid anabasine), namely: ( S )-3-{1-[(4-chlorophenyl)sulfonyl]piperidin-2-yl}pyridine, C 16 H 17 ClN 2 O 2 S ( 1 ); ( S )-3-[1-(4-methylphenyl)piperidin-2-yl]pyridine, C 17 H 20 N 2 O 2 S ( 2 ); ( S )-3-{1-[(4-methoxyphenyl)sulfonyl]piperidin-2-yl}pyridine, C 17 H 20 N 2 O 3 S ( 3 ); and ( S )-3-{1-[(3,4-dimethylphenyl)sulfonyl]piperidin-2-yl}pyridine, C 18 H 22 N 2 O 2 S ( 4 ). In the crystal structures, the spatial arrangement of the pyridine and piperidine rings around the C sp 2 —C* bond, as well as the orientation of the benzene ring of the arylsulfonyl group relative to the anabasine moiety, are analyzed.
