Abstract
This article discusses the main causes of the drying up of the Aral Sea, the environmental and socio-economic consequences of this ecological disaster, and the impact of human activity on the natural balance of the region. Particular attention is paid to the irrational use of the water resources of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, the development of irrigation systems during the Soviet period, and the worsening environmental situation in Central Asia. The article also analyzes modern measures aimed at mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and strengthening international environmental cooperation.
