Abstract

Social media has become one of the most influential forces in transforming modern English communication. Digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter significantly influence vocabulary, grammar, communication styles, and discourse patterns. The growth of online communication has accelerated lexical innovation, grammatical simplification, multimodal interaction, and global cultural exchange. Social media additionally influences identity construction, language attitudes, and communicative behavior among users. This article explores the role of social media in shaping modern English communication from linguistic, sociocultural, and technological perspectives. The paper also discusses both the positive and negative effects of digital communication on language development, communicative competence, and formal writing practices.
