"COMMON MISTAKES MADE BY STUDENTS DURING THE IELTS EXAMINATION PROCESS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT"
Abstract
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) has become one of the most widely accepted English language proficiency examinations worldwide. Universities, employers, and immigration authorities use IELTS scores to evaluate candidates’ language competence. Despite extensive preparation, many students fail to achieve their desired band scores because of common mistakes made during the examination process. These errors are often related not only to language proficiency but also to inadequate test-taking strategies, poor time management, lack of familiarity with examination requirements, and psychological factors such as anxiety and stress. This article examines the most frequent mistakes observed in the Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking components of the IELTS examination. Furthermore, it provides practical recommendations and effective preparation strategies that can help candidates improve their performance and achieve higher band scores.
