Abstract

Intensive methods of teaching English have attracted considerable attention in contemporary language education because they allow learners to achieve communicative competence within a shorter period of time than many traditional approaches. These methods are based on the activation of learners’ cognitive, emotional, and social resources and emphasize communication, motivation and meaningful interaction. The present paper examines the theoretical foundations of intensive language teaching, the role of suggestopedia, the importance of psychological factors in language acquisition and the practical implications of intensive instruction in English language classrooms.
