Abstract

This article examines the assistance provided by neighbors during the traditional wedding ceremonies of the Karakalpak people. In particular, it provides a detailed account, based on ethnographic field research, of the help offered by neighboring women through the traditions of “Keńes toy” and hosting guests in “qonıq jay” (guest houses).
