Abstract

Equity has become a solid focus of the education system in the world due to global commitments to equitable and inclusive education, in the form of SDG 4 and Education 2030 Agenda by UNESCO. But, there has been an unequal realization of these global aspirations into efficient practice at the school level based on diverse contexts of inequality and resource limitations. This chapter discusses educational leadership as an important tool of global equity agenda and localized schooling reality bridging. Equity is redefined in the form of a leadership-based and context-sensitive process through the use of comparative analysis, leadership theory, and current case evidence. The chapter discusses the ways leaders can understand the global structures, develop inclusive school cultures, engage in data-driven decision-making, and mobilize communities in order to minimize disparities. It identifies leadership directions that can help craft a policy-practice-accountability interface to achieve inclusive and socially equitable schooling systems.
