Media and Technology Literacy in the Age of AI
Abstract
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational contexts has fundamentally transformed the landscape of media and technology literacy requirements for higher education. This chapter examines the evolving competencies necessary for students to navigate, critically evaluate, and ethically engage with AI-driven media ecosystems. Drawing on recent empirical research and theoretical frameworks (2021-2025), we analyze the intersection of digital literacy, critical thinking, and AI awareness as essential components of 21st-century education. The chapter presents a comprehensive framework integrating technical competencies, ethical considerations, and pedagogical strategies for developing AI literacy. Through examination of current challenges including misinformation, algorithmic bias, and the digital divide, we propose evidence-based interventions and assessment methodologies.
