Abstract

Trotz der hohen sterischen Spannung nehmen die langen aliphatischen Ketten von Alkyltrimethylammoniumionen eine U-förmige Konformation tief im Hohlraum von Cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) ein (siehe Röntgenstruktur), die durch elektrostatische und Van-der-Waals-Wechselwirkungen mit dem Carbonyl-umsäumten Rand und dem hydrophoben Hohlraum von CB[8] stabilisiert wird. Die Konformation ähnelt der von Fettsäuren im Komplex mit fettsäurebindenden Proteinen.
