Radio polarization rotators - BL Lacertae and 0727-115

Abstract

Rotations in the polarization position angles over substantially more than 180 deg have been observed in BL Lac and 0727-115 at centimeter wavelengths. The broad-banded nature of the phenomenon eliminates frequency-dependent mechanisms as a possible cause, and the large range of the rotations is not consistent with relativistic-aberration type models. The most straightforward explanation for the origin of the apparent rotations is a rotating or a revolving structure in the radio emitting region.
