The socioeconomic consequences of desertification in central Asia

Abstract

The problem of desertification has been regarded as a global ecological problem of humankind for at least the past 30 years. The struggle with this fatal process at the global level was first considered at the UN conference in Nairobi in 1977. This paper examines how the situation has developed over the territories of the former republics of the USSR.
