Abstract

The close connection between the weak equivalence principle and the gravitational red-shift of photons is shown using special relativity and conservation of energy. Superconductors are studied with the aid of a new covariant equation, that relates the differential of the phase of the order parameter to the 4-velocity of the superconductor. This equation is derived using spontaneous symmetry breaking and conservation of energy. Some physical consequences, including the electromagnetic field inside a cavity in a superconductor, are obtained using this equation. The experiment of Jain et al, which tested the strong equivalence principle for Cooper pairs, is discussed and two more experiments are proposed.
