Abstract

This chapter discusses scientific and technological developments in Europe and the USA during 1850-1950 that resulted in a total revolution of crop and food production. These technological developments included nitrogen fertilizers, irrigation, chemical weed control, plant breeding and genetics, internal combustion engines and tractors, and food storage/preservation.
