Abstract

The spectra of electrons emitted in the collisions of H+ and 3He2+ on He at 50 and 100 keV, and on Ne gas at 100 keV were studied. For fixed angle the double differential cross section is analysed as a function of the velocity variable, which has a maximum about halfway between the soft electron and the electron capture to continuum peaks. The experimental results show that the position of this maximum does not depend on the projectile charge. Calculations using the continuum-distorted-wave-eikonal-initial-state approximation are in qualitative agreement with the authors' measurements.
