Abstract

The mass transfer in the nuclear system 238U-238U is studied quantum mechanically within the fragmentation theory. Mass distributions are obtained by solving the time-dependent Schrodinger equation which is calculated in the framework of the microscopic asymmetric two-centre shell model. The paper includes the temperature dependence of the fragmentation potentials and also a theoretical excursion on the influence of friction on the collective kinetic energy. In that framework the mass transfer leading to the production of superheavy elements is studied.
