Abstract

We show by general arguments from linear irreversible thermodynamics that for a heat engine, operating between reservoirs at temperatures ${T}_{0}$ and ${T}_{1}$, ${T}_{0}\ensuremath{\ge}{T}_{1}$, the efficiency at maximum power is bounded from above by $1\ensuremath{-}\sqrt{{T}_{1}/{T}_{0}}$.
