Abstract
It is an astonishing feature of type II superconductivity that its occurrence and many of its properties were predicted with surprising accuracy by Abrikosov several years before the discovery of the remarkable high magnetic field properties of Nb3Sn by Kunzler in 1962. Thus a ready-made theoretical model of the structure of type II superconductors was already in existence to prepare the way for the spate of experimental research which was to follow Kunzler1s discovery, and it is the developments in theory and experiment in the ensuing 10 years which are the subject of this monograph.
