Secular Law and the Emergence of Unofficial Turkish Islamic Law

Abstract

In secular Turkeyt, traditional Islamic law has been officially replaced with a secular legal system. The article examines the ways in which local and unofficial Islamic legal practices have been retained alongside secular law, despite the official position.
