Abstract
The concept of f versus a used in this paper was ascribed to Ref. 8, in which it was used in a study of aggregation ki- netics. The identical idea was earlier described by Frisch and Parisi, who developed the formalism in much the same way as we did in the introductory section of our paper. In this context, the reader might also be interested in the work of Benzi, Paladin, Parisi, and Vulpiani, who discussed examples complementary to our own, i.e. , well-developed turbulence and chaotic attractors. A key idea, the continuity of f (.a), was quite evident in these references. We would like to thank Giorgio Parisi for helpful discussions.
