Abstract

The specific heat of a two-dimensional electron gas in the quantum-Hall-effect regime (fractional and integral) is studied. The fractional-filling factors chosen here are known to have various spin configurations other than a fully spin-polarized state and we find that the specific heat versus temperature curves provide important information about those spin states. In the case of the lowest-filled Landau level the peak shifts to higher temperatures and the results are generally g-factor independent.
