Abstract

Thin films of gold are optically excited with \ensuremath{\sim}120 fs laser pulses. The resulting nonequilibrium particle dynamics is accounted for through interaction among quasiparticles and phonons, and through particle transport as treated within Fermi liquid theory. Agreement between experiment and theory is very good.
