Magnon scattering in the Raman spectrum of α-oxygen

Abstract

A previously Unobserved line at a displacement of 27.2 cm −1 in the Raman spectrum of the anti-ferromagnetic phase (α) of solid oxygen is reported. Its frequency, low intensity, small half-width, and variation of frequency with temperature are all consistent with its assignment to scattering by a k = 0 magnon mode.
