Abstract

The authors, a nuclear physicist at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, and a solid-state physicist at the Services Electronics Research Laboratory, Baldock, have produced a useful book on the expanding subject of semiconductor nuclear counters. A compact summary of the properties of ionizing radiations and their interactions with matter is followed by a discussion of methods of detection ranging over gas-filled counters, scintillation counters, nuclear emulsions, neutron detectors and spark chambers.
