Abstract

The algebraic variational method has been applied to the scattering of electrons by hydrogen atoms at intermediate energies. The atom was represented by an eleven-state expansion, including exact $1s$, $2s$, $2p$, and $3d$ states plus seven pseudostates. The pseudochannels are allowed to be open. Results are presented for $1s\ensuremath{-}2s$ and $1s\ensuremath{-}2p$ excitations for energies between 10 and 12 eV, and for $1s\ensuremath{-}1s$ elastic scattering from 10 to 30 eV.
