Abstract

The effect of a uniform magnetic field on the paraconductivity of a thin film of superconductor is calculated for conditions outside the classical region. It is assumed that the fluctuations in the order parameter can be described by the Ginzburg-Landau functional; the fourth order term is treated in the Hartree approximation below the transition temperature, Tc, and by the 'Hartree-Fock' approximation above Tc. Fields both parallel and perpendicular to the film are considered. For fields perpendicular to the film and temperatures below Tc only conditions without flux flow are considered. A preliminary comparison of the theory with experiment shows that although the appropriate regions of field and temperature are accessible to experiment, experiments which can test the theory have yet to be performed.
