Abstract
Experimental dips are reported in the magnetoacoustic attenuation of a mercury single crystal at 4.2\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K. These dips disappear when the temperature is lowered and the peaks of the giant quantum oscillations appear. The attenuation dips and peaks are located at the same magnetic field values and are amplitude dependent. The experimental results are explained with a mechanism of dislocation damping by the electrons on the Landau levels. A calculation of this damping is presented.
