Abstract

Pragmatics is a crucial branch of linguistics that focuses on meaning in context and examines how speakers and listeners negotiate meaning in real communicative situations. This article explores pragmatic strategies used in English communication between speakers and listeners, emphasizing speech acts, politeness strategies, implicature, deixis, and conversational cooperation. The study highlights how effective pragmatic competence enables successful interaction, reduces misunderstanding, and enhances communicative efficiency. Through theoretical analysis and illustrative examples, the paper demonstrates how pragmatic strategies operate in spoken English and how listeners interpret intended meanings beyond literal expressions. The findings suggest that pragmatic awareness is essential for language learners and plays a significant role in intercultural communication.
