THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INTERACTIVE ONLINE TOOLS IN DEVELOPING COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN REMOTE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING
Abstract
The rapid expansion of remote education has significantly transformed the teaching and learning of foreign languages, particularly English. In this context, interactive online tools have emerged as essential components of effective remote English language instruction. This article explores the effectiveness of interactive digital tools in developing learners’ communicative competence in remote English language learning environments. Communicative competence is understood as a multifaceted construct encompassing linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competences. The study examines how synchronous and asynchronous interactive tools such as video conferencing platforms, learning management systems, collaborative applications, and gamified learning tools facilitate meaningful interaction, learner engagement, and authentic communication. Drawing on contemporary pedagogical theories, empirical studies, and practical teaching experiences, the article analyzes the pedagogical potential and limitations of interactive online tools. The findings suggest that when appropriately integrated into remote instruction, interactive tools significantly enhance learners’ communicative competence by promoting interaction, autonomy, and contextualized language use. The article concludes with methodological recommendations for teachers and implications for future research.
