Abstract

These data describe the supplementary material of the submitted paper "Pace, F., Arato, A., Vergnano, A., Comina, C., Naldi, M., Godio, A., Socco, L.V. (2026). Electrical resistivity tomography for the characterization of river embankments: 2D vs 3D inversion." This supplementary material is composed of three folders: DD&WS_sequences: it includes the DD and WS sequences adopted in the field and in the creation of synthetic data. There are two “.csv” files to be uploaded in ResIPy for forward modelling and two “.R” script files to recreate or modify the sequences. The R-scripts include the comments for a clear comprehension of the commands used. JupyterLab_3Dmodel&mesh: it contains a JupyterLab python script (“.ipynb”) that can reproduce all the models and meshes presented in the paper. The script includes the comments for a clear comprehension of the commands used. ResIPy_projects: it contains the folders of all the 3D forward and 2D and 3D inverse modelling of synthetic DD and WS data presented in the paper. This folder is divided into two folders (Straight_embankment and Curved_embankment), each of them divided into 2 subfolders for 2D and 3D results. The content of each folder is here explained: Straight_embankment --> 2D: contains the “.csv” file of the electrode positions and three folders for models S1, S2 and S3. Each of them contains the folders for DD and WS data. Straight_embankment --> 3D: contains the meshes for forward and inverse modelling (“.msh”) and three folders for models S1, S2 and S3. Each of them contains the “.csv” file of the electrode positions and the folders for DD and WS data. Curved_embankment --> 2D: contains the “.csv” file of the electrode positions and three folders for models C1, C2 and C3. Each of them contains the folders for DD and WS data. Curved_embankment --> 3D: contains the meshes for forward and inverse modelling (“.msh”), the “.csv” file of the electrode positions and three folders for models C1, C2 and C3. Each of them contains the folders for DD and WS data.
