Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive linguocultural analysis of the numerals ellik (“fifty”) and oltmish (“sixty”) as they occur in Uzbek folk proverbs. Proverbs containing these numerals are examined as paremiological material, and their symbolic meanings associated in folk consciousness with stages of life, perception of time, social experience, trials, prosperity, transience of existence, and destiny are revealed.
